The coastal stretch south of Colombo offers palm-lined sandy expanses as far as the eye can see. Culture? Try the Kandyan dances, a procession of elephants or the masked devil dances. Ruins? You'll find enough ancient and inspiring architecture in the cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa to satisfy that inner archaeologist, we promise.

And then there's the natural wealth for which Sri Lanka is rightly renowned. Head for the hill country to escape the heat of the plains, where the coast fades away to reveal gorgeous rolling hills often carpeted with tea plantations. The entire island is teeming with bird life and exotics like elephants and leopards are not uncommon. To top it all off, the people are friendly, the food is delicious and costs are low.

SRI LANKA HIGHLIGHTS TOUR 6 Days

Day 1. Arrive Colombo. You will be met by a representative and transferred by private car to your hotel. In the afternoon, enjoy a city tour of Colombo. Dinner and overnight in Colombo. D

Day 2. Colombo to Sigiriya. After breakfast, you will commence a tour of Polonnaruwa and visits to Ankatilleke, Thuparama and Gal Vihare. Dinner and overnight at Sigiriya. BD

Day 3. Sigiriya to Kandy. Start with a visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress and then on to the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple and the Spice Garden Matale before arriving in Kandy. Here, at the Temple of the Tooth a Kandyan Cultural Dance will be performed followed by dinner and overnight in Kandy. BD

Day 4. Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. You can commence with an optional visit to the Pinnawela Elephant Park, Lake Drive and a visit to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya. Later, you will have a visit to a Tea Plantation while en route to Nuwara Eliya with an afternoon tour of Little England. Dinner and overnight at Nuwara Eliya. BD

Day 5. Nuwara Eliya to Yala. Breakfast, then depart for Yala. There will be an afternoon visit to the Yala National Wildlife Park. Dinner and overnight in Yala. BD

Day 6. Yala to Colombo. Visit the Galle Dutch Fort then return to Colombo or transfer to a Beach Extension Hotel of your choice. B
