Medical
Tourism
As waiting lists grow longer and the cost of surgery skyrockets, many Canadians are turning to a growing trend in the travel
world: medical tourism.
Imagine this scenario: you jet off to a tropical, exotic destination, and, just
a week later, return home with that perfect set of teeth you never thought you
could afford. Or, you've shaved a few years off your appearance with a face-
lift. This is the new reality in global travel, and it’s not just cosmetic
surgery that’s becoming popular. From hip surgery to multiple bypasses,
tourists are able to combine holidays with healthcare, thanks to affordable
overseas prices.
Thailand is one such destination that is becoming very popular for its
world-class medical holidays. For example, Bangkok’s Bumrungrad Hospital looks
more like a five-star hotel than a medical facility, with more than 500 doctors,
most with international training.
The hospital has state-of-the-art technology, and treatment costs about
one-eighth what it does in the United States. According to a report on CBS’ 60
Minutes news program, Bumrungrad is the No. 1 international hospital in the
world. The hospital prides itself on its first-class medical care, which it can
offer so cheaply because everything is cheaper in Thailand, particularly labour
and malpractice insurance. You can get just about any kind of treatment, from chemotherapy to plastic surgery.
Here at Royal Travel, we can help you organize your
“healthcare holiday”, taking much of the worry out of what is
normally a stressful situation. Call us for more information.
